3 Who is this for and what do you risk?
Who does this apply to? The new rules apply to everyone in Antwerp those who live or work outside a zone with sorting streets and present their waste in a container. This therefore affects three large groups:
- Private individuals Families who have now purchased their own wheeled bin (e.g., from a DIY store).
- Entrepreneurs & SMEs: Shops, offices, hospitality businesses, and sole proprietorships that have their business waste collected by municipal collection.
- Organizations Schools, associations, and daycare centers must also switch.
2. What if you ignore the rules? Starting from the deadline (July 1, 2026), strict controls will be enforced. If you still put out your old, private bin:
- Not emptied The garbage trucks will simply leave your bin. The new trucks scan for the mandatory chip.
- Fines (GAS) A full container that remains is considered ‘improperly disposed of waste’ or even illegal dumping. You risk a Fine for gas that can amount to €500.
- Additional charges: In addition to the fine, the city can also charge you for the cleanup and disposal costs.
